Abstract:
For growing manufacturers, the ability to correctly control their stock holding is critical to cash flow and ultimately the very viability of the business. As a smaller firm, excel and paper based systems are adequate for tracking stock and ensuring that what is needed is available at the correct time. However as the business grows, the simple answer to the problem is often just to throw cash at it, i.e. buy more stock. This can go unnoticed by management for quite some time as under-equipped supply chain managers struggle with limited tools. Very often, a modest investment in Materials Requirements Planning will bring an efficiency that pays for itself many times over the course of a year.
